Wound Management Services
(powered by Wound Expert)

Wound Expert by Net Health Systems
Pressure ulcers and wounds continue to be prevalent and costly for long-term care facilities. A recently published study by the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel revealed a pressure ulcer incidence rate of 2.2% to 23.9%. While the cost of pressure ulcer prevention remains elusive, costs related to wound treatment have been conservatively estimated to range from $500 to $50,000 per ulcer.

With scrutiny from survey agencies and potential litigation increasing, long-term care facilities must implement aggressive pressure ulcer prevention programs. However, cost-effective pressure ulcer prevention continues to be a challenge for most long-term care facilities, in part because limited research is available to guide their efforts.

To help facilities address these major issues, CareTracker has partnered with an industry expert, or a Wound Expert to be more specific. Net Health Systems is the creator of Wound Expert, a “Software as a Service” application for monitoring wounds and their treatment.

Wound Prevention Service
By using the data that you may already be collecting with CareTracker, Wound Expert’s data analysis engine can help you recognize residents that have a high potential for wounds and recommend protocols for preventing those wounds from occurring. Protocols that are implemented through the service can be monitored using CareTracker’s easy to use compliance tools.

Wound Tracking Service
Unfortunately, not all wounds can be prevented. But when they do occur, it’s extremely important to establish proper treatment protocols and monitor compliance against those protocols. Using the Wound Tracking Service, staff can record detailed information about the resident’s wound using the CareTracker interface that they’re already familiar with at the kiosks or through a mobile device.

This wound data is trended over time and the Wound Expert engine reviews it to provide treatment recommendations and protocols. Staff members select which treatments and protocols apply to the resident, and the selected treatments and protocols are monitored using CareTracker’s familiar compliance tools.

Organizations gain benefits by generating reports to track the progress of each wound and accessing benchmarking information for comparative and trending purposes.

Availability
These new wound management services will be released in 2008 for customers using the CareTracker Gateway platform.

By implementing these two services, CareTracker customers could potentially reduce the number of wounds that occur in their facilities, and heal the ones that do occur faster. This could save thousands of dollars, and dramatically reduce the risk for both the resident and the facility.
